Oswit Land Trust didn’t waste any time in applying for its first grant that is needed to create the much anticipated Prescott Preserve.
The planning grant was awarded in September 2022 with a unanimous vote from state agency the Coachella Valley Mountains Conservancy (CVMC). The $163,850 grant enables Oswit Land Trust to hire the very well known and respected restoration company LSA and its landscape architectural design and installation partner Brightview.
This grant kicks off months of planning which will include an entire biological resource assessment of the property for every plant, tree, pond, bird and wildlife on the property. This data will be used to determine exactly what the property can become and how the design will integrate public use and wildlife. Soil samples, tree assessments, design schematics, community outreach, and more will be included in the planning phase. At the end of the planning phase, a detailed map, 3d modeling and design will be released to the public. The final design and construction documents will be used to apply for the restoration grants in 2023.
In addition to working with LSA and Brightview, Oswit Land Trust has established a working relationship with a team of experts and students from UCR including biologists, ecologists, master gardeners, climate stewards, bird experts, water ecologists and more!
